A "hoyo" is a dip in the land or a valley and the Hoyo of Monterrey is a sweet spot within the supreme tobacco growing territory of the Vuelta Abajo's Pinar del Rio region of Cuba.  The company named for this valley was founded in 1867 and is one of the Cuba's oldest.  Today the brand, which was one of the first ever created in Cuba produces cigars that are quite a bit milder.  The Hoyo range, a sub-brand , is more full bodied.
